PETALING JAYA:
Eleven workers at a factory in Bandar Proton City near Tanjong Malim suffered breathing difficulties and eye irritation after being exposed to isocyanate-based chemicals this afternoon.

Perak fire and rescue department acting assistant director of operations Shazlean Hanafiah said nine firefighters from the Tanjong Malim fire and rescue station rushed to the scene upon receiving an emergency call at 2.42pm.

They found a leak in the piping system that resulted in 15 litres of the chemical to spill, Bernama reported.

All the victims were sent to a nearby clinic before the fire department team arrived, Shazlean said in a statement today.

“The leak was successfully sealed and cleaning work was carried out using sand in the affected area.

“Cleaning and containment operations are still going on at the scene,” he added.
