The party’s president Abdul Hadi Awang however, explained the obstacle is not one that is too great for PAS to overcome as other party leaders had done the same in the past.
“Lim Guan Eng contested in Penang although he was not a Penangite. So that is not a problem,” he said in a press conference in Simpang Lima here, late last night.
Meru state assemblyman Abdul Rani Osman, who was named last night for the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat, declined to comment when asked of the matter.
“I was advised by Tuan Guru President (Hadi) not to issue any statement.”
Meanwhile, in the press meet, Abdul Hadi was also asked about the hudud bill which he tabled in Parliament on Thursday, to which he reiterated that it was a purely Muslim matter.
“Non-Muslims should not get involved. MCA and MIC are more understanding and DAP doesn’t understand, that is disappointing. Amanah (Parti Amanah Negara), meanwhile, doesn’t know boundaries,” he said.
Hadi also accused DAP of being out to defame Islam.
“There’s an agenda behind DAP which is trying to defame Islam and they’re worried if it’s (the law) implemented according to the religion, there will be a positive response from the non-Muslims and this frightens them.”
