Speaking to Sinar Harian, Azmi Che Husain, said that the man who claimed he had been assaulted by the Bayu rep had allegedly provoked the incident in the first place.
“At the time I was in my car with my two sons. He gestured in an indecent manner at my son who was driving the Toyota Harrier we were in.
“When that happened, I got out from my car and asked him why he did what he did.
“However, he began getting angry at me. I had even said ‘salam’ and he did not reply,” Azmi was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying.
Azmi said the man had acted aggresively, adding that he was kicked and had fallen down.
“When my sons saw that, they came out of our car to defend me.
“Who can bear to see their father being beaten in front of their eyes? What ensued was a scuffle between the three of them. I tried to break it off but I was punched by the man,” the Kedah deputy speaker said.
Azmi also challenged anyone who wanted to contradict his account of what happened, as well as to provide proof that the man’s girlfriend was punched.
He claimed that the misunderstanding was shared on social media as part of an agenda to tarnish his political reputation.
However, he declined to reveal who it was, telling the daily only that he knew the individual who had attempted to tarnish his reputation by orchestrating the incident.
“The incident happened complete with a video recording, something is not right,” Azmi said.
It was reported yesterday that the man claimed he was punched by a Kedah state assemblyman upon leaving the Aman Central shopping mall in Alor Setar.
He claimed that he was punched and had also alleged his girlfriend was punched in the chest and hands when she tried to break the fight up.
Police confirmed the incident yesterday stating that an investigation was underway.
