Two lawmakers from PAS and PKR today gave contradicting views over the seat negotiations for the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections.
PAS Youth Chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz stated that PAS had decided to contest in both the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar constituencies.
He said there were no more discussions with PKR over the matter as negotiations “ended many days ago”.
“It is Pakatan Harapan that has not made a decision. That is their business,” Nik Abduh told reporters outside the Dewan Rakyat today.
PH comprises PKR, Amanah and DAP. PKR still maintains political cooperation with the Islamist party in the Selangor Government.
PKR Vice-President Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin insisted that discussions on the seats were still ongoing, citing PKR President Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s statement yesterday that talks with PAS were going on.
“We won’t reveal the outcome of the negotiations. Wait for the meeting,” the Bukit Katil MP told reporters.
It was previously reported that Amanah was prepared to contest in both constituencies under the PH banner, although PKR is said to be also eyeing both seats.
The Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seats fell vacant following the death of its incumbents, Noriah Kasnon and Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad respectively, in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak, on May 5.
