PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister and Umno President Najib Razak will name the candidates for the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections on May 27 or 28.
Star Online quoted Umno Secretary-General Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor as saying the names of suitable candidates had been submitted from different divisions.
“We will leave it to the party president to decide,” he said at a function in Kuala Lumpur.
Tengku Adnan said a lot of names of suitable candidates were submitted by state and local divisions like Umno Youth and Wanita.
“The most important thing is we select a rakyat’s calon (candidate) who is loved by the people.”
Nominations for the twin by-elections will be on June 5. The elections will be held on June 18.
The by-elections are being held after the former MPs for the two seats were killed in a helicopter crash in Sarawak on May 5.
