RM15,000 donation to bodyguard’s family

Prime Minister Najib Razak hands over donation to policeman’s father at a luncheon held in conjunction with Umno's 70th anniversary today.

KUALA NERUS:
Prime Minister Najib Razak today presented a RM15,000 donation to the family of Ahmad Sobri Harun who died in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak, on May 5.

Ahmad Sobri was the personal bodyguard of Plantation Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister Noriah Kasnon, who was also killed in the crash.

The donation was handed over to Ahmad Sobri’s father Harun Muda at a luncheon held in conjunction with Umno’s 70th anniversary at Duyong Marina & Resort here.

Present were Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, Higher Education Minister Idris Jusoh and state Umno leaders.

Speaking to reporters, Ahmad Sobri’s mother, Fauziah Musa, 56, said she was grateful to the prime minister and the state government for the contribution and planned to use the money to perform haj on behalf of her son.

Ahmad Sobri, who had served as a bodyguard for the past three years, was attached to the Bukit Aman Bodyguard Unit Branch after completing his police training on Dec 28, 2012.

Also killed in the helicopter crash were Noriah’s husband Asmuni Abdullah, Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry Secretary-General Sundaran Annamalai, Kuala Kangsar MP Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad and Filipino pilot Captain Rudolf Rex Ragas.
