PETALING JAYA:
PKR leaders have given conflicting statements regarding a letter supposedly written by jailed de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim warning about the dangers of teaming up with former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The letter, which was first published by Penang PKR Youth on its Facebook page, expresses concerns over the Citizens’ Declaration which has “dragged our leaders and apparatuses to be in cahoots with Tun M (Mahathir) and Daim (former Finance Minister Daim Zainuddin).”

“The letter is authentic. I do not wish to comment further. Let the people read and make their own evaluations,” PKR Secretary-General Rafizi Ramli told Malaysiakini .

On the other hand, the news portal said PKR Vice-President Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin had dismissed the letter when met in Parliament earlier today.

He said Anwar had always been consistent in his support for the declaration and its objectives.

“The issue of him regretting his support for the declaration does not arise at all. Anwar has been consistent in his support for the declaration and its objectives.”

The post, highlighted by Malaysia Today, alleged that Anwar was unhappy with the “excessive” involvement of some PKR leaders in the Citizens’ Declaration.

According to the post, Anwar relayed his concerns through the party’s president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and several other leaders, who brought up the issue at the party’s recent central political bureau meeting.
