KUALA LUMPUR: Two Malaysian girls have been placed first at the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition Fall of 2015.

Valerie Chong, 6, and Hershe Lee, 9, from Tawau, Sabah, performed at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York on March 27, reported the Daily Express.

This is a competition open to talented musicians around the world.

Chong was also the youngest pianist awarded the Judges’ Distinction Award. Only three from the hundreds of competitors get this award, with the other two going to a Canadian, aged 10, and an Irish girl, aged 16.

Chong and Lee had been tutored by Linda Koh for the past three years.

Koh’s work was also recognised with a Diploma of Recognition from American Protégé for her extraordinary dedication and achievement in the field of teaching music.
