Perkasa Central Information Chief Hassan Basri Muhammad said Fakhrul’s actions were not representative of the NGO and he was instead speaking as a representative of the National Silat Federation of Malaysia (Pesaka) Terengganu.
“The truth is that the media misreported the statement from Fakhrul who was actually representing Pesaka and not Perkasa, even though he has been appointed as Perkasa Terengganu information chief,” he told FMT.
Earlier, the media had reported that Fakhrul was representing Perkasa Terengganu when he slammed Mahathir for “beating around the bush” when the former premier said he was anti-Najib, but was not against Umno.
He said Mahathir should go against the Malay party because Najib was elected Umno president.
Following the statement, there are those among the Perkasa Central leadership that describe Fakhrul as being rude and discourteous for using the name of the organisation to attack Mahathir.
Wira Perkasa Chief Irwan Fahmi Ideris reminded Fakhrul to focus on political issues in Terengganu and defend the rights of the people there instead of attacking the former prime minister.
“It’s better if he (Fakhrul) focuses on the issues in Terengganu where the menteri besar was almost replaced,” he said.
FMT understands that Perkasa has refused to be part of the clash between the pro-Najib and anti-Najib groups.
