The only request of the villagers to the Barisan National (BN) candidate for the constituency of Tupong, where the village is located, was to have a centre where they could have sports activities comfortably.
The existing field is in a sorry condition, and gets worse on rainy days.
The villagers made the request in the presence of the candidate, Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, Works Minister Fadillah Yusof and Musa.
“We’re used to giving help, especially to the youth. They are our priority as they are important assets for the future,” said Musa, who was in Kuching to help the BN campaign for the May 7 state election.
The villagers expressed their unwavering loyalty to BN, with the village leader, Mohammad Nusi Jumali, promising that 300-plus voters would cast their votes for the ruling party.
“We cannot only expect the government to help us. We have to help the government. And this is my message as a ketua kaum: We must vote for BN!” he said to applause from the crowd.
Speaking to FMT later, Mohammad Nusi said the villagers there were aware that only BN had the resources to provide them with the development they wanted.
“The Opposition cannot do anything. They only talk about winning over the rural area. But they never even set foot here, except during election . So how can we trust them when they’re never around?”
Tupong comprises mostly of Malays and Melanau. It is being contested by two candidates, Fazzrudin and the PKR’s Nurhanim Mokhsen.
