He said this to reporters when asked about a recent remark by DAP Sarawak Chairman Chong Chieng Jen who urged Chief Minister Adenan Satem and the Election Commission to prevent West Malaysian army and police personnel as well as their families from casting their votes in Sarawak.
“If they (officers) have registered at polling stations in Sarawak, we have to let them (vote). It’s their right.
“How can we stop them from voting when they have registered officially?
“DAP’s suggestion (that they be barred from voting) is illogical and goes against the Elections Act,” he said.
Chong said that in Kota Sentosa alone, the number of army voters had increased by 400, to 3,300 and out of this number, 80% were from West Malaysia. In Stakan, over 47% were West Malaysian voters.
Meanwhile when asked for updates on the election campaign process, Khalid said 74 reports had been lodged with the police and added, “Out of these 74 reports, we have opened 46 investigation papers. But all these investigations are nothing serious.
“It’s just about posters and flags falling down. Nothing interesting.”
Sarawak is set to hold its 11th state election this May 7.
