KUCHING:
The peace and harmony that exists among the various ethnicities in Sarawak should be used as a template for unity, says Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Aziz.

Speaking to reporters during a media conference today, Nazri compared the level of unity among the people in Sarawak to that in the Peninsular and said that as far as he was concerned, the two were totally different.

“There’s no problem here (Sarawak) between the Bidayuh, Iban, Mulu, Melayu, Melanau and other ethnicities or between Muslims and non-Muslims.

“There’s nothing semenanjung (peninsula) people can teach Sarawakians. The state’s decision to ban certain people from entering is a good move and I support Tok Nan 100 per cent,” he said, referring to Chief Minister Adenan Satem.

“If I was the CM, I would do the same thing,” he said at the Grand Margherita Hotel here today.

He also said he supported the move by Adenan to allow Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali of PKR to enter the state but to limit the leader’s stay to no longer than May 2.

“It’s good that he (Azmin) only has time until May 2. The Opposition only wants to topple Barisan Nasional (BN).

“If they are so confident they can win this (Sarawak) election, who’s going to be their chief minister? Sarawak DAP Chairman Chong (Chieng Jen)? Some DAP members are against it.

“Then who else? Bian Lama? Bian Baru?” Nazri jibed, referring to Sarawak PKR Chairman Baru Bian.

Several Opposition leaders have been barred from entering Sarawak after Adenan claimed that many often delivered slanderous speeches in their bid to get the people’s support.

Among those banned were Subang Jaya assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh of DAP; Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad of Parti Amanah Negara; Seremban MP Anthony Loke of DAP; Amanah president Mohamad Sabu; and Dr Afif Bahardin of PKR.

Adenan said that those on the immigration blacklist will be free to enter Sarawak once the state election is over.
