KUCHING:
PKR leaders Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Nurul Izzah Anwar may be allowed into Sarawak if they ask the state’s Chief Minister Adenan Satem “politely”.

Speaking at a press conference here tonight, Adenan said he had heard of a rumour claiming PKR president Wan Azizah was planning to come into the state through Sabah to help her party members campaign for the May 7 Sarawak election.

“There is no need for her to do that. All she has to do is write to me, ask for permission to come, and I will consider it.

“I think she’s a very nice person, except that she belongs to the wrong party.

“Same goes with Nurul Izzah. Yes, she’s banned. But if she asks to come politely, and acknowledges our right, I will consider the matter.”

Nurul Izzah is among the long list of Opposition and BN members barred from entering Sarawak.

This, Adenan previously said, was to stop negative West Malaysian culture from making its way into the multiracial and multi-religious state.

The Sarawak Government had initially considered barring Wan Azizah, along with DAP leaders Lim Guan Eng and Lim Kit Siang. However, both Kit Siang and Guan Eng were still allowed into the state.

The privilege provided to the father-and-son duo, said Adenan, did not come without a price.

“They seem to be behaving themselves. But one wrong move and, if they cross the line, out they go.

“We can’t tolerate people like that,” Adenan reiterated.

He also explained that the reason only a few Umno members were included in the no-entry list was because some of them had been forewarned not to come.

As for certain Opposition members who had circumvented the ban by giving talks through video conferences, Adenan merely said that it was up to them to do so.

“I can’t stop them. Don’t expect me to tell MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) to cut them off, or something.”
