KUALA LUMPUR:
PKR will investigate the loss of its Bukit Sari seat in the Sarawak Election to Barisan Nasional, following reports that its Bukit Sari candidate Jamal Ibrahim did not turn up at the nomination centre.

“The N82 Bukit Sari candidate (Jamal Ibrahim) did not go to the nomination centre and no reason or explanation was given.

“We are extremely disappointed at this last-minute change and will bring this matter to the attention of the Disciplinary Committee,” said Sarawak PKR Election Operations Director Ismail Yusop in a statement this afternoon.

In a report by Malay Mail Online, Election Commission (EC) chairman Hashim Abdullah today confirmed BN’s walkover victory in Bukit Sari, with the seat going to Public Utilities Minister Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

The Sarawak PKR Election Committee apologised to its supporters for the uncontested loss of two seats in the Sarawak Election to BN, namely the Bukit Sari and Pantai Damai seats.

Pantai Damai candidate Morni Samsudin’s nomination was nullified by Pantai Damai’s Returning Officer due to bankruptcy as the said candidate was a guarantor of a loan.

This sets the stage for a straight fight between BN and PAS.

“We sincerely apologise to all PKR supporters over this problem.

“The party will review all relevant processes to identify weakness in the current candidacy process,” said Ismail.
