“We don’t know what’s the latest update yet. But this isn’t something we haven’t been through before,” said Hihammuddin when approached by reporters.
He said party members should not get emotional and succumb to rumours.
Hishamuddin, a former Terengganu Umno chairman, remained confident despite talk of an impending political shake-up in the state. He said the party could still make progress despite being in power with only a two-seat majority in the state assembly.
“Two seats are not something worrying. We have proven this before, that if we place our priorities in the state and the party, two seats isn’t something troubling,” he said.
An online news report yesterday quoting an unnamed source, said menteri besar Ahmad Razif had been stripped of his datukship, purportedly after having irked the palace while accompanying the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, during Friday prayers.
Harian Metro reported today that organisers of the Wakaf Senusantara Conference 2016 had refrained from referring to Ahmad Razif as Datuk Seri, but instead they had referred to him as “Yang Amat Berhormat Menteri Besar Terengganu”.
The report said a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Jamil Khir Baharom, had also referred to Ahmad Razif as Menteri Besar, instead of Datuk Seri, but Harian Metro said Ahmad Razif did not comment on the matter when asked by reporters today.
