Last night, the party kicked off the election campaign in Batu Kawah with a karaoke session attended by a strong crowd of about 1,000.
Dr Sim, who is president of BN component party SUPP, and other party leaders belted out classic Chinese songs, with the crowd joining in.
Later, he led a mock swearing-in ceremony, in Chinese and Malay, to signify their supporting him for the election.
Dr Sim promised better facilities in Batu Kawah should he be elected to the state assembly.
“We want better infrastructure, newer schools in our home . “If we win this time, we can do everything for the people. It is even better if we have a minister to represent us,” he said, referring to a state ministerial position that would ensure the public would be taken care off.
“Only BN will ensure funds for us,” he added.
Dr Sim also took jibes at the DAP’s Christina Chiew, who is seeking re-election, and independent candidate Liu Thian Leong.
“Chinese are not dumb. When we choose a YB (elected representative) we want a YB who can do work,” Dr Sim said, pointing out that an elected representative should not just find issues to talk about.
“(Salary of) More than RM10,000 a month just to talk?” he joked. “What can an independent candidate do for us? He said he is pro-BN referring to Liu. If that is what he said, why didn’t he get the authorisation from Adenan?” he said, referring to Sarawak BN chairman Adenan Satem.
