KLANG:
Taman Sentosa residents here are giving the police and the state government a week to investigate the alleged corruption behind the construction of a nearby retention pond and funds given to flood victims.

If it is not addressed by then, the residents said they would take the matter up with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Speaking at a press conference, Zone 29 Residents Committee President Shanker Raj Ayanger claimed that even after Seri Andalas Assemblyman Xavier Jeyakumar used state-allocated funds to build the pond, they had to endure floods every time it rained.

“So what was the real purpose behind building this pond? For his own amusement?”

He said there was also reason to suspect corruption behind the distribution of funds for flood victims.

He said in one case, a resident was given a voucher worth RM200 which Jeyakumar allegedly wrote in pencil.

When contacted, Jeyakumar said he had never heard of a Zone 29 Residents Committee and denied that he had ever given a voucher written in pencil.

“If anyone needs any monetary aid or voucher, my office doors are open to them.”

On the pond, Jeyakumar said that it was built by the developer and not the government.

“The pond was built to reduce flooding, although it won’t resolve the issue entirely.”
