“The Western media which allowed themselves to be used to propagate false politically-motivated allegations should apologise to the Malaysian people,” said Tengku Sarriffuddin Tengku Ahmad in a press statement today.
He was responding to a report yesterday where Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir admitted that the donation to Najib Razak was indeed from his country.
Tengku Sarriffuddin said Mahathir’s lies were motivated by personal interest and he did not care for Malaysia or the people.
“It was an attempt to unseat a democratically-elected government, just to save the political career of his son, Mukhriz Mahathir.”
He pointed out that Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister had considered the matter of the donation closed.
Tengku Sarriffuddin also said that Adel’s statement confirms what the Prime Minister had maintained all along and what various authorities concluded following exhaustive investigations into the donations.
“This also proves that the wild allegations spread by Mahathir and his Anti-Najib Campaign, for a year, are completely false.”
The RM2.6 billion controversy came about after an article by the Wall Street Journal alleged that the sum came from 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
However, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission later revealed that the funds were from a Middle-Eastern donor.
