BUTTERWORTH:
The Automated Enforcement System (AES) has not been stopped as claimed over social media. It is being reviewed and fine-tuned to ensure its implementation will run smoothly.

Road Transport Department (RTD) Director-General Ismail Ahmad said the study and proposed improvements on AES would be tabled at the Parliament sitting in May before any decision on the matter was taken.

“The government wants to ensure the AES is implemented simultaneously with the Demerit Point Award System for traffic offences (Kejara) and both would be tabled in Parliament in May.

“Currently, 40 AES cameras are still functioning and the government has not stopped the AES programme as rumoured over social websites,” he told reporters after opening the Penang-level RTD Day here today.

He also denied claims over social media that 39 new AES cameras had been installed in Penang.
