Seen by some party members as a rebel, the Tanjung Bungah assemblyman said some people have misunderstood his actions and have instead heaped criticism on him.
He said he accepted the criticism with an open heart but stressed the motion was not directed at anyone in particular but all leaders including the Prime Minister and Menteris Besar.
Teh said as a Penang assemblyman he could only push for the motion in the state assembly but if he were a parliamentarian, he would be able to raise the matter in Parliament.
Speaking at a press conference, Teh said he hoped the Speaker would not be influenced by others when deciding whether to accept or reject the motion.
“I will accept my colleagues’ decision if they vote against the motion as this is part of the democratic process,” he was quoted by The Star Online today as saying.
On calls by some party members calling for his resignation from the party and as assemblyman, Teh said the members were free to say what they wanted and could also express their own stand on the issue.
It was previously reported that Teh said the proposal to limit the tenure of a Chief Minister was needed to rejuvenate the leadership in Penang and prevent the incidence of cronyism.
