He said the proposal must be approved by the Cabinet and amendments to the Road Transport Act 1987 must be made before implementing it.
“It is still a proposal between the ministry and the government for certain offences with a certain time period given. For instance, RM150 must be paid within six months.
“If they fail to do so, the amount will be increased. You delay paying, you pay more,” he told reporters at Parliament lobby here today.
Ab Aziz said the rates for similar offences, for summonses issued by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the police, would be coordinated.
Earlier, during the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat here, Ab Aziz said the ministry had proposed to the government to re-implement the Automated Enforcement System (AES), which was postponed previously.
“For now, about two million summonses have yet to be settled by traffic offenders following the suspension of AES since 2012,” he said when replying to a supplementary question by Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali (BN-Bagan Serai) on the implementation of the AES system.
