KUALA LUMPPUR:
Thousands of people have gathered on the streets in several areas of the city centre for a rally against the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

FMT observed about 400 protesters are gathering in front of Sogo Shopping Complex, 300 at Kampung Baru mosque and another 300 at Jalan Sultan.

They began chanting “Abolish GST!” and “Reformasi!” while also calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak.

The three places are checkpoints for the protests organised by the Pakatan Harapan Opposition coalition. The crowd will converge at Sogo once again before making their way to Dataran Merdeka.

However the square has been closed and all roads leading to it blocked by the police and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

More protesters are expected to join the protests as the day goes on.

Police presence was prominent but Federal Reserve Units were not seen in all areas.
