Woman slashed, robbed of RM12,000 in car park

Woman was about to enter her car to return home after finishing work at a shopping complex in Bukit Jambul, Penang, when attacked by two men.

GEORGE TOWN:
A female accountant at a telephone shop was slashed on the arms and feet in a robbery at the car park of a shopping complex in Bukit Jambul here late last night.

The woman, aged 41, was about to enter her car to return home after she had finished work at the shop, located in the shopping complex, about 11 pm when two men approached her.

Timur Laut District Police Chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said one of the suspects then slashed the woman with a long machete, causing her injuries on the arms and feet and then seized a sling bag she was holding, before fleeing the scene on a waiting motorcycle.

The sling bag contained more than RM12,000, a Samsung S6 Edge handphone and personal documents, he added.

He said the woman’s screams for help attracted passers-by who went to her aid and then sent her to a private hospital in Bayan Baru.

The woman, from Jelutong, underwent surgery and was reported to be in stable condition, he added.

Mior Faridalathrash said police would get the footage of the close-circuit television camera at the shopping complex to identify the suspects.
