The former prime minister’s office, in a brief statement, said that the resignation letter was sent to DRB-HICOM Berhad Group Managing Director Syed Faisal Albar yesterday.
Mahathir has also relinquished his post as the Universiti Teknologi Petronas Chancellor, also effective yesterday.
“Apart from that, Dr Mahathir has also resigned as the adviser to the Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) and the Tioman Island Development Authority (Tida). The Chief Secretary to the Government has been informed of these resignations,” the statement read.
Mahathir’s resignation from the national car company comes barely a month after the Cabinet terminated his appointment as Petronas adviser.
The Cabinet decided to sack Malaysia’s longest serving premier from the post – held since Mahathir resigned as PM in 2003 – after he launched the Citizens’ Declaration with Opposition leaders.
The movement aims to topple Najib Razak as the PM.
