A circular, sent out by a Penang DAP official, had asked party leaders not to hold press conferences or issue statements on the two matters, The Star Online reported today.
Only three leaders are authorised to comment on the two matters. They are DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng, Penang DAP Chairman Chow Kon Yeow and party Legal Adviser Gobind Singh Deo.
The news portal said according to the circular, the move was to avoid making the situation more confusing.
The circular clarified the move was to prevent any “accidental breach of sensitive information” given the seriousness of the issues.
The circular also acknowledged the attacks as “well-planned by our opponent” and called for full cooperation and unity in order to pull through the crisis, The Star said.
The circular concluded by stating that: “We might have different views in handling these issues but at this moment unity is vital”.
The circular was meant for the party’s MPs, assemblymen, state committee members, DAP Socialist Youth and Wanita leaders.
Lim is alleged to have purchased the RM2.8 million Jalan Pinhorn bungalow at below market value. Since then, his accusers have been releasing documents via social media alleging a connection between the purchase of the bungalow to a controversial project in Taman Manggis, Georgetown.
Lim has denied the allegations. He is also being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
