KOTA KINABALU:
Sabah is proud to have Bernard Dompok as Malaysia’s first resident ambassador to the Vatican, Chief Minister Musa Aman said today.

He said Dompok was the right person for the post due to his experience, having visited the Vatican on numerous occasions and met several popes.

“I am confident that he will play a positive role towards strengthening the relationship between Malaysia and the Vatican,” he said in a statement here.

Musa said Dompok had called on him at his official residence, Sri Gaya, here.

He also said that Dompok’s appointment reflected the government’s moderate approach and tolerance towards all religions.

Dompok said he was honoured to be made ambassador to the Vatican.

He said the relationship between Malaysia and the Vatican was good and he would serve his role in strengthening ties and promoting religious understanding.

“I will relay the message that despite the ethnic and religious diversity in Malaysia, we are able to live in peace and harmony,” he said.
