According to a Borneo Post Online report, Entulu said the decision was made at the Federal Cabinet meeting on Friday.
“Once the Cabinet minutes are out, the state government will be informed in writing to make the necessary implementation immediately.
“I hope it can be implemented within the next few months,” he was quoted as saying, adding that official forms subsequently will have a column for Malay, Chinese, Indian and Dayak as well as “Kaum-Kaum Lain”.
He added that a Dayak would be able to further indicate if he was Iban or Bidayuh if he or she wished to do so.
Entulu said the new classification would be implemented in Sarawak first as it was less complicated than in Sabah.
Last October, the word “Dayak” was approved by the Federal Cabinet to denote the race of non-Malay Bumiputeras in government official forms.
