Mukhriz, one of the speakers at the People’s Congress here today, said the people should aim to change not Umno, but the one person who had given the party a bad name.
The person, he added, was Umno President and Prime Minister Najib Razak.
“There is only one way to save the country, and that is by ousting Najib.
“I am still wearing Umno’s red shirt. Umno is my flesh and blood. That is not easy to change. I’m asking for only one person to be changed to save Malaysia,” said Mukhriz.
His declaration got the crowd shouting, “Change!”
Undeterred, Mukhriz said his father, former Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad had pledged to collect signatures in support of the Citizens’ Declaration which among others, demands for Najib’s resignation.
“He will put it (the signatures) in a lorry and will personally drive it to the King. As long as there is life in this body, we will fight to remove him (Najib).
“We will only lose when the truth is not fought for,” he told over 1,000 attendees gathered at the Shah Alam Convention Centre today.
The Citizens’ Declaration was signed on March 4 by among others Dr Mahathir, suspended Umno Deputy President Muhyiddin Yassin, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.
“We do not want corruption including at the highest level. We do not want anyone abusing their posts.
“The Rakyat needs to speak up. Their voices need to be heard by the leaders.”
