Mahathir: Don’t be afraid, sign the Declaration

I'll drive a lorry filled with forms to see the King for Najib's resignation, says ex-premier.

SHAH ALAM:
Sign the declaration. Do not be afraid. That was Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s message to Malaysians, asking them to support the Citizens’ Declaration for Najib to resign as prime minister.

He said many people were afraid of putting down their names and IC numbers on the forms for fear of repercussions from the government.

“There are a lot of businessmen afraid of signing the forms. But they shouldn’t. If we can have millions of signatures we can ask the Rulers Conference to look into the matter,” Dr Mahathir said.

He said the Malay Rulers did not have the power to remove Najib but “if there is pressure from the people, we can ask them to look into it. If millions can sign the declaration form, then the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has to accept,” he said.

“We are asking something out of the Constitution. I hope the Rulers will hear the rakyat. It is an extraordinary request,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said he was willing to drive a lorry filled with the forms to meet the King.

So far Mahathir said the movement had garnered 100,000 signatures with some signatures still to be downloaded from the Internet. “We are also visiting different states. We will get the signatures but these processes take time,” he added.

He said the fear that Malaysians had of the government was unwarranted as the government would not be able to take action against millions of Malaysians all at once.
