KUALA LUMPUR:
Prime Minister Najib Razak today expressed disappointment over the misappropriation of funds in the Youth and Sports Ministry over several years without being traced, causing the government to lose over RM100 million.

He expressed grave concern over the case involving a senior ministry official who is currently being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“The government will not compromise in any case of misappropriation involving government funds and stern action will be taken against those involved,” he said in his latest entry in his blog najibrazak.com.

Najib also wanted all government ministries and agencies to constantly monitor spending of allocations.

On the case in question, he said a thorough investigation should be conducted immediately and the case referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for advice and litigation.

“The National Audit Department will also study and further tighten procedures on government expenditure.

“I want developments on this case uploaded on the Auditor-General’s Dashboard at website https://agdashboard.audit.gov.my for the general public.”

Najib, who is also finance minister, said the dashboard was introduced in 2013 to monitor action taken in cases identified as problematic by the National Audit Department.

On Friday, the MACC arrested a division secretary of the ministry on suspicion of masterminding embezzlement of government funds totalling RM107 million.
