KUALA LUMPUR:
A parliamentary caucus to fight conventional and online gambling is to be set up soon.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he would bring the matter up to the Cabinet.

“I will table it at the next meeting, most probably on Friday.

“I will offer myself to chair this caucus and we will look at each act to tackle the problem,” Zahid said when met by reporters outside the Parliament lobby today.

“It is the responsibility of every MP, from the government and Opposition, to collaborate in solving matters involving gambling.”

Earlier in the Dewan Rakyat, Opposition MPs pressed the home minister to explain the efforts taken by Putrajaya to curb online gambling problems.

The Bagan Datoh MP suggested working with Interpol and other Asean security agencies to address the issue.

“This problem is not only faced by us but others because the (gambling) servers are not in the country. They are overseas.

“This is why I believe we must work with Interpol and Asean security agencies.”
