Khalid (Independent – Bandar Tun Razak) said the Agong, in his opening speech last week, had reminded all lawmakers to cooperate with each other for the sake of the country and to stop politicising every issue.
“I would like to talk on some statements of the MP which were not in line with the Agong’s speech.
“Gelang Patah (Lim) said Malaysia is going towards a ‘Banana Republic’. These words can affect our country because a banana republic means that our currency has no value”.
“He also said Malaysia is going towards a failed state. A failed state means the country has lost control of managing itself or the inability to provide public services, among others. I don’t see any of this in our country now,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
In July last year, Lim warned that Prime Minister Najib Razak’s warped new version of Vision 2020 would see Malaysia as a “Banana Republic” and not the developed nation it aspired to be.
On March 13, Lim, in his blog, had called on the people to support the “Save Malaysia campaign” to stop the country hurtling down the “slippery slope towards a failed and a rogue state”.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Fauzi Zahari (BN – Setiawangsa) interjected to ask Khalid if he believed the opposition had been lying to the people about the current state of the country.
“I will follow the King’s advice and refuse to politicise any issue. I was sharing my observations and I will let the people decide on this,” Khalid replied.
