KUALA LUMPUR:
A political analyst has told Prime Minister Najib Razak and his supporters to brace for “more shocks” from former premier Mahathir Mohamad in his campaign to oust the current regime in Putrajaya.

In a recent blog posting, Shahbudin Husin speculated that Mahathir would not stop with the signing of the Citizens’ Declaration.

“He has many more steps to take on the way to getting Najib out of Putrajaya. There are more shocks in store for Najib.”

Shahbudin was commenting on the Najib camp’s reaction to the signing of the declaration and the widespread public support for it.

He said it was evident that the “historic” event had taken its toll on Najib and his supporters, pointing to recent pledges of support for the Prime Minister.

He noted that such publicised pledges had been made even before the signing of the declaration.

“Now, the same people have gathered again and repeated the same pledge, as if in a re-run, to calm Najib, who is having the jitters.”

He scoffed at such public displays, saying they served only as comical amusement. “It’s not necessary to pledge solidarity and support so many times in a year.”

Shahbudin commended the Opposition for its “ability to rise above itself and think of the nation” as it set aside differences with Mahathir to pledge its solidarity with him in the effort to oust Najib.

“It was not madness, as charged by Umno Secretary-General Tengku Adnan Mansor,” he said. “There was in fact a method at work. It’s an extraordinary effort that transcends partisan politics.”
