KUCHING:
The Prime Minister, Najib Razak, making a veiled attack on Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his Citizens’ Declaration, has accused the former premier of trying to fool the people with his own personal agenda.

Naib urged the people to think clearly and sort out what was true from half-truths and mere fiction, and facts from what is merely a personal opinion.

He made reference to the Citizens’ Declaration launched by Dr Mahathir last week and accused the former premier of attempting to pull wool over the people’s eyes by calling it a people’s declaration when it was really Dr Mahathir’s own agenda.

He said a leader who had once led the country for 22 years had organised an event for what was purportedly the people’s declaration, whereas it was actually not a declaration agreed upon fully by Malaysians.

He said a majority of the people, including in Sarawak, did not agree with the declaration.

“Do not make a public declaration (with the intention) to pull wool over the people’s eyes, to turn a personal agenda into the people’s agenda,….(actually) it’s not about the people, it’s about a personal agenda,” he said today, according to Bernama.

Speaking at the launch of a river-front event Minda di Tebingan Sungai Kuching, here today, Najib reiterated his government’s determination to carry out development in Sarawak. This was the real public agenda, he said and reminded the people to keep a clear mind about the difference between a true agenda, or fact, and what was a lie.

He said the fact was that the government carried out all its pledges, whereas the opposition could only make all kinds of promises, but the pledges generally could not be fulfilled.

He said subsequently it was a fact that it would be easier for the Federal Government to negotiate with a state government leadership that was in tandem or in the “same team’ with it.
