In an interview with Malaysiakini, the Gelang Patah MP said he had not sold out on his principles.
“For 50 years, money, position, resources – nothing has enticed me. I’m 75 now, not many active years left, so there’s no reason why I should be tempted and enticed,” he was quoted as saying.
“Bringing about a more united nation, a more just and prosperous society; these are principles that have guided my whole life.”
Lim said teaming up with Mahathir did not mean he had forgotten about the latter’s past actions, but that working together was in the country’s best interests at the moment, as it was more important to focus on the future rather than on the past in order to save the country.
Political rivals for decades, Lim and Mahathir’s coming together under the Save Malaysia movement drew both praise and criticism from various quarters.
Besides Lim, Mahathir and other political leaders from both sides of the divide, as well as civil society leaders, signed the Citizens’ Declaration calling for Najib’s removal.
