Ahmad Said was quoted in The Star Online saying that if he wanted to leave the party, he would have done so years ago.
“If I was bad, I would have done it a long time ago.
“It would have been much easier for me to leave (then), plus that would see a change in the ruling party,” he said.
He was referring to the incident two years ago when he threatened to leave the party with two other Umno assemblymen, risking Barisan Nasional’s fall in the state. Terengganu now has 17 seats under BN and 15 under the Opposition.
However, he eventually decided against leaving the party although agreeing to relinquish the post of MB that saw Ahmad Razif appointed as his successor.
On Tuesday, Ahmad Said filed a motion of no-confidence against Ahmad Razif on grounds he was being ridiculed by the latter’s administration. His motion was however rejected by the Speaker.
Speaking to the portal, Ahmad Said said he only filed the motion because he wanted to see a change in the menteri besar.
“It is not about having PAS or any other Opposition party ruling the state. Barisan can still rule even if there is a change in menteri besar,” he was quoted as saying.
