KUALA LUMPUR:
PAS has urged for the 14th General Election (PRU14) to be held as soon as possible to prevent the “undemocratic ousting” of Prime Minister Najib Razak.

PAS Youth Chief Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said the people should use the elections as a solution rather than removing Najib “undemocratically”.

“We want the general election. We do not want to remove the PM undemocratically.

“However, if the PM is to resign, then it’s okay. If the government dares, have the elections quickly because that’s what the people want,” Nik Abduh told reporters in Parliament today.

He added that the people wanted a change in government, but it should be done through elections based on democratic principles.

“We know the government believes that it has a mandate. We are fair. Have the elections as soon as possible because the rakyat deserve it,” he said.

Nik Abduh also said that he would not sign the “Save Malaysia” declaration.

“We have made a decision and PAS feels that change should be by the people. We hope the government will be more responsible.

“We are a party that inspires the people and cater to the needs of the people. Umno does not represent the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, PAS Youth Vice-Chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin said the position of Umno president was passed down from Dr Mahathir Mohamad to Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and then to Najib.

Under Najib, Umno retained its ruling position despite 51% of the popular votes going to the Opposition during the 13th General Election.

“If other leaders from the same party take power, nothing will change. The only way to make a difference is to get rid of Umno-BN completely.

“For more than half a century now, Umno-BN has retained its position without change and they are happy to just change leaders within the party to retain the support of the people,” Khairil said in a statement today.

He added that the “Save Malaysia” declaration was “too small”, as certain issues were not addressed.

“The focus of the declaration should be demanding the intervention of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament to make way for elections. Let the people be the judge to determine the future of the country’s leadership,” he said.

The PAS Youth wing also questioned Mahathir’s intention, whether he was willing to join the Opposition to change the government or to merely change the PM to further strengthen Umno.
