Penang Hill Corporation ‘made a big mistake’, says ousted PKR rep

PETALING JAYA:
PKR’s Cheah Kah Peng has hit out at Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) over his removal from its board, stating the corporation has made a “big mistake”, The Star reported.

The Kebun Bunga assemblyman, who was PHC director, said he would demand that the corporation “rectify, apologise and do the necessary”.

“I will inform my constituents of this grave injustice and continue to assist the people of Penang Hill,” the English daily quoted him as saying.

He said Penang Hill came under his constituency and removing him deprived his constituents of their right to be represented in the corporation.

Cheah was one of two PKR assemblymen given the boot from the Penang government-linked companies after they abstained from voting on a land reclamation motion tabled by Umno at the state assembly in November last year.

Bukit Tengah representative Ong Chin Wen, meanwhile, was removed as director in InvestPenang and Island Gold Properties Bhd.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng later claimed the duo were removed as they had been the “chief instigators” against the state and not because they took a differing view from that of the state government.
