Its committee member, Saari Sungib, said the public spat between Azmin and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng would have a negative effect on the public’s perception towards the Pakatan Harapan coalition.
“I think Azmin was acting on behalf of the party (PKR), but he has to remember that he is a Menteri Besar while Lim is also a Chief Minister. It doesn’t look nice for PH,”Saari told FMT.
Azmin is PKR’s deputy president.
The Hulu Kelang assemblyman also reminded component parties to air disagreements through the proper channels provided by PH.
“There were several rules set by the PH Congress and this included the requirement for differences to be resolved internally and in private. I hope the council will be able to solve the current conflict and avoid confusion among the public.”
Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Sue Lim, on the other hand, said the misunderstanding between Azmin and Lim was nothing out of the ordinary and hence should not be blown out of proportion.
“This is normal. All leaders have their differences once in a while, but it wouldn’t lead to a split within the coalition.”
Azmin had earlier criticised Lim for removing two PKR assemblymen, namely Bukit Tengah’s Ong Chin Wen and Kebun Bunga rep Cheah Kah Peng, from their posts in state GLCs, arguing the duo should not be punished for merely carrying out their duties as elected representatives.
Ong and Cheah were booted out after deciding to abstain from voting on a motion filed by Umno on land reclamation projects.
Lim defended his move and said they were sacked from the GLCs where he is the chairperson due to him no longer having confidence or trust in them.
