PETALING JAYA:
Wanita MCA has called for S Deepa’s former husband Izwan Abdullah to be arrested for threatening to snatch their daughter, Sharmila, away from her.

Responding to Izwan’s declaration that he would snatch his daughter if she was brought to a Hindu temple or given non-halal food, Wanita MCA chief Heng Seai Kie urged the police to open investigation papers against Izwan, in addition to providing Sharmila with protection against him.

“The Social Welfare Department should also perform periodic checks on Mithran (the couple’s other child) to gauge if his welfare is indeed cared for and that he is not living under duress in his father’s custody.

“What sort of example is Izwan teaching his son Mithran with his latest declaration to break both the law and custody order?

“That adult men may easily grab minor girls besides battering their spouse?” she said in a statement, adding attempted abduction was a crime.

Heng lamented that Izwan’s latest abduction threat was a result of him being rewarded for his previous abduction of Mithran through custody of the boy given by the Federal Court.

She said the numerous police reports filed by Deepa against Izwan for domestic violence when they were still married and the Interim Protection Order (IPO) she obtained against him were clear signs he was unfit to be a father.

Yesterday, in an interview with The Malaysian Insider, Izwan had threatened to snatch Sharmila away from Deepa, and reiterated that she must be raised as a Muslim.

Last Wednesday, the Federal Court granted Izwan custody of eight-year-old Mithran, while Deepa got custody of 10-year-old Sharmila after the judges interviewed both children.
