PETALING JAYA:
Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) has taken Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen to task for his alleged double standards in calling for checks and balance.

In a Borneo Post Online report, SPDP president Tiong King Sing said Chong’s call for the ruling coalition to be given 55 per cent to 60 per cent of seats in the legislative assembly to prevent them from making decisions without adequate checks and balance smacked of double standards.

Tiong said Chong never made the same call for the Opposition-held states of Penang and Selangor.

“The Pakatan government holds 29 seats out of 40 seats, which is 72.5 per cent of total seats in Penang,” he said while in Selangor, the opposition held 43 seats of 56 seats, with 30 seats under Pakatan Harapan and 13 from PAS.

“Why didn’t Chong make any noise about it?”

Tiong also slammed Chong for suggesting that Chief Minister Adenan Satem should rectify all the weaknesses of the state government before the people give him another five years as chief minister.

He said in doing so, Chong had ignored all of Adenan’s initiatives in the past two years at the expense of harping on the perceived weaknesses of the previous administration.

“As the leader of the state, he (Adenan) also faces challenges for what he has inherited. We must give him a chance to make changes and lead Sarawak forward to a better and brighter future by giving him a big mandate in the coming election.”
