According to a report by pro-Umno blog, MyKMU.net, Azira posted her plea on Facebook as a show of support for her father, who was sworn-in as Kedah MB today.
“The ‘kaki tidur’ (sleepyhead) that has been vilified and scolded is my one and only abah (dad) and yes, I’m proud of him.
“Is it funny when people who don’t know him, have never met him, and never said hi to him say such things?
“Who knows, the extremely popular ‘sleeping’ video was made just to tear abah down,” she said at the start of her post.
Azira said she was unhappy with “keyboard warriors” and other critics for mocking her father over his academic status and cursing him and his family, following the recent political tussle in Kedah involving former MB Mukhriz Mahathir.
“Abah has been in politics since he was in his 20s. He started from the bottom. From nothing. That’s a fact. I don’t deny that academic achievement is very important. But what’s the use of high education when you involve yourself in politics, show off your successes here and there, share statuses in Facebook about getting deals from Dato’ A and Dato’ B?” she wrote.
“Pity abah for not knowing how to take selfies, tweets, and share his achievements on Facebook. Is it funny that no one questioned abah’s academic achievements when he was chosen to lead in a time during PAS’s rule? Because who would take on the responsibility, right?”
Azira, on behalf of her family, also said she forgave all those vilifying her father as she felt they did not know who he really was.
“You keyboard warriors should pray because if your curses haven’t been heard by Allah, the angels at his side will be recording it. Kun faya kun (so be it). It is Allah that determines one’s fortune, doom and fate. What’s yours will always be yours, what’s not yours will never be yours. No matter how hard you fight for it. So please don’t be so gelabah (panicky). Kedah people say don’t gelabah togei (taugeh),” she said.
