Umno IT Bureau (BTM) chairman Ahmad Maslan said the committee should comprise a state BTM chairman and a representative from Umno division BTM, Youth BTM, Wanita BTM and Puteri BTM respectively.
“Meetings and courses for this IT bureau committee can only be held after all state Umno and their divisions appoint their respective committees.
“We cannot waste any more time because there are only two years left before the next general election, which will be very challenging, especially in facing the social media,” he told reporters after visiting Melaka Halal Hub today.
Ahmad, who was formerly Umno Information chief, was appointed to the new post last Friday.
He said the restructuring and improvement of Umno on social media could only be done after the setting up of the new committee.
Ahmad said the committee would also be coordinated at the national level to ensure that all activities could be standardised and monitored effectively.
He said organised plans and approaches would be taken by the committee to counter all political allegations aimed at tarnishing the image of BN, Umno and the government.
“False allegations through social media can be very damaging.
“Positive things can easily be fabricated, falsified and manipulated to become negative.”
He said a meeting with influential pro-BN social media players, including bloggers, would be held soon to coordinate the dissemination of the latest information towards improving the party’s image.
