PETALING JAYA: Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir had to call off the weekly state exco meeting after a majority of exco members failed to turn up, The Star reported today.

According to the report, only three exco members– Aminuddin Omar, Suraya Yaacob and Norsabrina Mohd Noor– attended the meeting.

It is understood that while the meeting could proceed, Mukhriz called it off as he said it would have been pointless to make any decision due to the political turmoil presently taking place in Kedah.

There are 10 exco members in the state including Mukhriz, who is facing a revolt led by Kedah Umno deputy chief Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.

Speculation is rife that Mukhriz will be replaced this week.

Last week, Umno Kedah rebels called on Prime Minister Najib Razak to remove Mukhriz as both Menteri Besar and Umno state liaison chief.

In a press conference last Wednesday, the group led by Ahmad Bashah alleged that Mukhriz had failed to perform on three fronts: administering the state government effectively, uniting the party, and planning for the 14th General Election.
