KUALA LUMPUR:
The street crime rate in the Federal Territory showed a drastic decline of 37.7%, equivalent to 439 cases, last year compared to 2014.

Dang Wangi District Police Chief, ACP Zainol Samah said throughout the whole of last year, 675 cases of street crimes such as robberies and thefts were recorded, a decrease from 1,114 cases the previous year.

“The crime index rate under Dang Wangi recorded a decline of 13.6%, or 648 cases, last year compared to 2014,” he told reporters at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters today.

He said the crime rate was reduced to 4,120 cases in 2015 from 4,768 cases recorded in 2014.

“This was due to ongoing efforts in terms of prevention and intelligence as well public information that allows the police to combat crime.

“In addition, the placement of mobile stations and patrols by patrol vehicles and motorcycle patrol units in focus areas such as Jalan Ampang, Bukit Bintang, and Central Market have been effective in reducing the crime index,” he said.
