PUTRAJAYA:
Seven areas of the city popular for entertainment, shopping and tourism have been named as terrorists’ hotspots.

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, citing an intelligence report, said the seven areas are Bangsar, Hartamas, Publika, The Curve, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur and KL Tower.

He said the Federal Territories ministry has instructed that security be beefed up in crowded areas in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

“The number of police will be increased. We will discuss with the defence ministry if there’s a need to mobilise soldiers,”

He noted that Indonesia and Turkey were attacked as they are popular with tourists.

“There are people who want to cause trouble and are jealous of our achievements. Look at what happened to Indonesia and Turkey, they have many tourists in their countries,” he said.

He urged the public to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

Suicide bombers attacked Jakarta, killing three people and the five militants. The Islamic State terrorist group has since claimed responsibility.
