Its publicity secretary Ahmad Anwar Asyraf, writing in DAP’s mouthpiece Roketkini, said that had Umno truly fought for the Malays, they would not have lost their confidence in the party.
“Being a Malay does not necessarily mean we have to stand with Syed Ali’s party (Umno). What has [Umno] done all these years?
“Umno had betrayed the Malays’ trust, so don’t blame others, but yourself,” he wrote.
This was in response to Syed Ali’s recent posting in his blog that some Malays joined DAP because they were too eager to become MPs in the next general elections.
Syed Ali also claimed DAP, which he described as a racist party, would make all sorts of promises to the Malays who wanted to work with them, only because they wanted to topple Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN).
“Not everyone is like you, Syed Ali. Independent Malays have their own identity and they don’t join politics for personal gain, but because they want to contribute to building the country.
“Choosing a political party which is not Malay dominated like DAP is not an easy ticket to become a Member of Parliament,” he said.
“Skin colour is not the determining factor for someone’s political career but it is about ability, skill and talent. Or, simply put, meritocracy.”
