In a statement, GMM CEO Nasharudin Mat Isa also expressed hope that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
“We duly take note of the fact that these extreme actions are getting closer and closer to home; hence it is imperative for us, as per the statement by the YAB Prime Minister (Najib Razak), ‘to combat extremism wherever it may be’.”
“Being a party to the Asean Community, the GMM Foundation views seriously the incidents that have taken place, thus extending its willing hands to organisations in Indonesia so as to help promote the values of moderation, tolerance and managing differences,” said Nasharudin.
Najib, who is the patron of GMM, had earlier tweeted about Malaysia’s readiness to help the neighbouring country in any way possible.
“Deeply shocked & saddened by bomb attacks in Jakarta. Msia stands ready to help in any way. Thoughts & prayers with the Indonesian people,” Najib had tweeted.
Also responding to the attack was Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who tweeted: “Sympathy & solidarity for Jakarta. Vigilance & preemption at home. This is real.”
At least six people were believed to be have been killed in the attack as of now. Wisma Putra earlier released a statement saying no Malaysians were among those killed and that the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta was monitoring the situation closely.
