The article, written as a response to Mahathir’s claim that he knew of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s secrets, gave a list of misdeeds that he allegedly committed during his years in power.
The anonymous writer says he is “sure that no one knows of the Tun’s secrets and his past” and that if someone were to dig into his background, he would find that everything was positive.
“Furthermore,” he adds, “he never kept secrets from us, did he?
“We know that the Tun is a pure Malay. We know he leads a life that is more pious than the life led by the late Nik Aziz. He is poor and destitute. Just go through his personal accounts. Poor indeed, isn’t he?
“We also know that the Tun never had cronies. He never assisted his children or his friends, and that’s why many of them lead a hand to mouth existence. Isn’t that so?”
Accompanying the article is a picture of the 20 richest Malaysians, who include Mahathir’s son Mokhzani.
The writer questions the Mahathir administration’s transparency and the integrity of his governance.
“He never gave any ‘direct nego’ contracts to anyone. In fact, all government contracts under his administration were advertised in the mainstream newspapers.
“At the time, leakages, irregularities or abuses of power never happened. More important, if any cabinet minister committed an offence, he would be the hero who would take action against them.”
The article ends with a hint that Mahathir’s followers should reconsider their support for him and a call for Mahathir’s repentance.
“We can’t touch too much on Mahathir, lest we be condemned. So let the people judge who the real former prime minister is.
“This writer prays that the Tun repents and asks forgiveness from Malaysians for his lack of secrets.”
