“We cannot depend on leaders who are not resourceful enough to fix the mess they created,” he says.
“The longer Najib stays, the more disrepute and disgrace that he faces. At the same time, the problems created by him remain.”
Najib’s ultimate failure, says Aspan, is his inability to bring the people together despite their differences and achieve national unity on the way forward.
“He should not have been Prime Minister in the first place. We have to blame the person or persons who put him there.
“It’s not just about 1MDB, SRC International or other scandals. These are just the immediate reasons why he should go. We have to look at the bigger issues — lack of leadership skills, an economy being mismanaged and polarization.”
Aspan says the onus is on the people to get rid of Najib. “They have the right to impeach him and take back the powers.
“A new Prime Minister must be drafted in to replace him. He must have a proven track record in managing, especially an economy, and must have the right personality and character for the leadership role.”
Aspan doesn’t see the present political party system as the ideal source for a new prime minister. “It’s important to look beyond political parties and find a Prime Minister from among the MPs.
“No one is paying attention to the words of the current leaders as their words and promises are worthless and do not deserve any consideration.”
The painful death of the middle class is observable and this alone is enough to turn any nation to political disorder, Aspan warns.
For the middle class, he says, the main concern is the economic health of the country.
